Jan 22-Jan 28 End of Semester

Look back over the semester. Write about your top two favorite things that we've done. Choose anything: books, plays, films, poetry, papers, projects, discussions.

This semester, I really enjoyed the Pop Art and Beat poetry project. I hadn't done much with Pop Art in the past and I liked learning about a style of art that is much different from more classical styles. It was also interesting to see the connections between Pop Art and Beat poetry. I also liked reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Not only is it intriguing, it also applies to our lives and the "combines" that we struggle against. I really liked Kesey's writing style, especially his choice to use the Chief as the narrator and the incorporation of the Chief's hallucinations.

As I look back at all the books we have read this semester a few pieces of literature popped out at me. First, I really enjoyed Oedipus Rex because it was the first short story we read and also was the first of its kind of genre that we analyzed. Even though the opera was a little boring for my tastes I really enjoyed the costumes and back drops that the opera had. Furthermore, I really enjoyed reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I liked the quirkiness and the interaction of the characters within the story. I also enjoyed the characters because of the their different backgrounds and problems they were each facing.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this semester was reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I felt like the book was really relevant to how we live today in a society plauged by stereotypes and the idea of fitting into a certain mold. I also felt like the feelings that the characters felt throughout the book were easy to relate to. Another thing a enjoyed about this semester was the beat poetry and pop art project because it allowed me to be a little artistic while also learning about some of the popular forms of poetry.

There are many things about this semester that popped into my mind when reading the blog heading. For literature, i really enjoyed ready One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. This book kept me always wanting to read more and more day in and day out. The characters seemed very realistic, and the overal message the book gave me was inspirational. This was definately one of the best books i have read through a school english class. Along with reading the books, i also really enjoyed the beat poetry and pop art project. This gave us the chance to be creative, yet portray famous artists and poets in the given time frame. It was interesting to see all the different elements that were used in this era, and how they related to the art and writings. I felt that I have explored many new paths this semester, and look forward to exploring what comes next.

Just like the people who posted before me, I liked reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I'd heard of the movie before but I didn't know what it was about so it was great reading the book and finding out for myself. I thought the book was funny, unlike a lot of the books we read at school.

Another part of class I enjoy is watching the movies of the books we have read. I dislike seeing the movie before reading the book, but seeing the movie after reading the book is helpful when it comes to remembering who said what. Right now we are watching Hamlet as we read and I think that is really going to help me on the test, especially since it's much easier to understand Shakespeare when you hear someone speaking it with feeling, like we are hearing in the movie.

As I was thinking about what I was going to say for my two favorite things we've done this semester I decided to read others as well. I have to say that so far, apparently everybody really enjoyed reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Sadly I didn't, well not as much as I did Writing the Turn of the Screw Essay. I really like being able to analyze the book and to try to prove what I really thought was going on.
The other thing I enjoyed this semester was just being in the class, and being part of all the different types of discussions we have; Anything from books to the "lovely" CP. So that's defiantly my favorite part of the class.
The Blog’s not bad too! :)

As much as I hate to admit it, my two favorite things that we have done this year relate mainly to reading. I really enjoyed Brave New World, and I thought it was a good segway into the beginning of the year, and created for great in-class discussions because everybody has so many different views. I also really enjoyed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I really liked Ken Kesey's writing style, and the fact that there were so many different illusions and motifs to follow.

This semester, my favorite thing that we have done has been how if possible, and if it doesn't stray too far away from the text, that we have been watching movies of some of the novels that we have been reading in class. I think that it gives students a different way to interpret the text of these novels, and that sometimes it is much easier to understand something if it is being acted out in front of you. Another thing that we have done this semester that I really enjoyed that we did this semester was writing a college essay in class. If we had not done this in class, I think that I would be writing my college essays now. It also helped so much to have other students read them, and to compare your essay to others as well. I think that it was something that not only benefited me in our class, but will benefit me by helping me get into a school next year.

This semester I had a lot of fun reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I liked the theories we came up with while reading the book; then the dissecting of the book and important individual parts that led to our greater understanding of the text. I also greatly enjoyed the Pop Art Beat poetry assignment because it gave me the ability and freedom to really stick with my ideas and run with them without a really exact rubric to follow.

SEE YOU NEXT SEMESTER!!!!

I liked reading One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest because it was interesting to read about a person who poses as something he isn't in order to escape his situation. I find it interesting also to compare this to Hamlet, as it seems to be another case when someone acts completely differently from how they feel. It's sort of fun to psychoanalyze characters and figure out what they are really trying to do.

I enjoyed The project we did for the poetry unite. I really thought that it was a great idea to copy a style of a picture and poem to make our own art. Actually I just enjoy art as a whole anyway and I think that any project that lets you be creative is very good. I also enjoyed reading 'One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest'. I thought that our class discussions were very interesting and it was a subject that I had not thought a lot about. to this day I still reflect on what I learned in the Cuckoos nest.

Reflecting back on the semester, I appreciated the Oedipus Rex movie and the Pop Art/Beat poetry project. The movie was amazing with its mix of Japanese and Latin theatrical assets. While we had already read the book, I feel that the movie version was much more creative with its costume, set, and lighting. The Pop Art/Beat poetry project was great for me because I was able to explore two different aspects of American art. I did my project based on a poem by Andy Warhol, and this experience was definitely the most colorful and engaging.

This semester was a blast! I really liked how all of our books tied into similar themes. Brave New World and One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest relate to not conforming, and the consequences of what happens when we rebel. Turn of the Screw, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, and now Hamlet relate to hallucinations/ghosts and what kind of effect they have on us as humans. The Pop Art project was really unique because we got to research poetry and art in history and then make our own creation based on what we learned. Also, everyone's turned out really different. I also learned that I love short stories and Oedipex Rex was an especially good one to read, because the genre was so different from anything else we've read.

My favorite read was Oedipus Rex. I hadn't read the story before, and it surprised me how interesting it was for being written so very long ago. I enjoying seeing that many of the issues addressed in the novel are still relevant today. Secondly, I thought that the Pop Art project was very interesting, although I had a lot of trouble drawing the picture for the poem. Fortunately, i succeeded in an acceptable manner, and I am proud of my terrible art and prose.

After looking back at this semester i have to say that my two favorite parts of the class were the summer assignment to read "Brave New World" and the pop art project. So first for the summer assignment the book that was chosen was amazing and it is one of my favorite books now. I liked that we had the whole summer to read it because i read it more than once and took a ton of notes which made it even more interesting. Also to have a summer assignment kept my brain a little smarter over the summer. The second part of this semester that i really enjoyed was the pop art project. I love pop art and took AP art history last year so i had a pretty good understanding of the project. Also i like that after we found a poem and pop art to go along with it, we had to make our own art and make a poem about that. The poem i found was amazing and reminded me of the 60's. Then when i wrote mine i actually liked it. Over all it was a great project to have done. I am looking forward to the next semester and what other books we will read and what other projects we will have.

This semester I enjoyed reading "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" I liked that we were able to have class discussions and come up with different types of theories and meanings about the book. There was never a wrong answer and it made it easier to participate. I also enjoyed the Pop Art and Beat Poetry. I didn't really know anything about it at first but I was able to match a poem to a picture and then make one on my own pretty easily.

My favorite thing this semester was the Pop Art and Beat Poetry project. I really love Pop Art, I think it's really unique and interesting and it is still famous in our culture today. I also found the Beat Poetry fascinating because there were so many poems that i loved, they were fun and had character to them and i really liked that.
Another part of the semester that i thoroughly enjoyed was reading The Turn Of The Screw. I found this book entrancing and i was so caught up in it when i was reading it. It was fun to try to guess what was coming next and i like how the author made it so you were never really sure if the governess was crazy or not. I thought the book offered a lot of room for discussion and interpretation which was a great part about reading the book.

Looking back to the first semester, two things stand out that i enjoyed the most. The first was the book we had to read over the summer. Even though at times it was hard to understand, the main theme of the book was very interesting and something that i wouldnt normally read.
The second thing i enjoyed this semester was the different movies we have watched in this class. Reading a book and then watching the movie on that book helps me to better understand the book.

Throughout this semester I have really enjoyed the poetry unit. I love writing poetry and being able to take a time period and relate it to a poem was really fun for me. I think analyzing poems helps me read better and look in to each type of writing. I also enjoyed reading One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. This was one my most favorite books that I have read in my English class and I think our class discussions were really enjoyable. Overall I think that this semester has been great and everything has been very fun.

This semester my favorite book was One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest. I really enjoyed everything that we did with this book. I also really liked the pop art and beat poetry project. It was fun to make something that wasn't an essay, something that was creative. I didn't enjoy but am very greatful for the time we spent on our college essays. I want you to know that I got into both UW and Sacred Heart, thanks for helping me with my essay.

My favorite thing about the semester was reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I think it was one of the best books I have ever read in school and the discussions we had in class really did a fantastic job of delving deeper into the text and exploring different allusions and interpretations that were all extremely interesting. I also really enjoyed getting the time and help to write a college entrance essay in class. I had no idea how to write an effective college essay and the help I received was invaluable in helping me craft something that would give me an edge in the admittance process.

This semester, my favorite book that we read was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I found it very intriguing and I enjoyed the discussions in class. I thought it was interesting to analyze the symbolism through Chief's visions and the fog. It was a great story that can still be applied to our world today. I also enjoyed the Pop Art and Beat Poetry project. I have always liked poetry and it was interesting to see how people matched a work of art to a poem even though the two didn't originally relate; putting them together created new meaning for both. It was cool to see the different interpretations.

Looking back on the semester the top two things that i would consider my favorite things we have done will probably be reading Cuckoo's Nest and Blogging. Cuckoo's Nest was just a great book and it worked out nicely. Blogging is fun and i think it really helps "bond" the separate classes and i like reading what everyone writes.

One of the things i really enjoyed this year in this class was reading cuckoo's nest. I thought the book was really well written and I really thought that it was one of the best school assigned books i have read so far. I also liked our class discussions on turn of the screw. I liked how the discussions in class were always very informative and helped me understand the book and its many layers a lot better.

Looking back at the semester, there were a couple of projects that I enjoyed most. I had a good time doing the pop art and beat poetry project, because we were given wide boundaries and were able to be creative with our own poems and art pieces. My second favorite assignment was reading Cuckoo's Nest. Aside from simply being an interesting book, I think that it brought about the most class participation. It seemed to keep everyone completely involved, and we were able to dicuss our ideas with one another in class. In addition to this, I am enjoying reading Hamlet and watching the film.

I have to agree with many of you. My two favorite things we've done so far are the pop art/beat poem and Cuckoo's Nest. I think the pop art assignment was something very original and new...and a way that we could use creativity while also learning about a new style of art. I also enjoyed Cuckoo's nest because it had a very interesting story line and characters.

I have to say that the two most favorite things I enjoyed doing in class in the first semester were reading the Opedius Rex and learning and exploring Pop Culture, and with that, we got to imiate the poetries' styles to write our owns. It was interesting to learn about that one person, who ended up marrying his mother. It sounds very crazy, but I guess that it could happen when things like that happened. However, when you think about it, it's kind of wrong. Also, talking about Fate and Free Will, I feel that everyone is born with a fate, that he or she will be journeying through, however, with Free Will, it could help makes the best of that Fate or, not.
The Pop Art and its culture was interesting to learn and read. I enjoyed reseaching for poems and images to represent my poems, especially to write one. I really love the poem I wrote that has a style similar to the poem I picked. Poetry is not all about beats and rythm. To write a good poem, the author needs to express his or her feelings for the poetry to flow with the emotion of the poem.

This semester there have been two things that have stood out the most. I actually really enjoyed Brave New World that we read over the summer. I will be honest there have been only two books in school that I have actually looked forward to reading and Brave New World was one of them. And second I am really enjoying the Hamlet unit with the play and movie combination. Hamlet is the only Shakespeare that I have liked and I think it's both because it is more realistic or applicable to today and because I am able to understand it more than other Shakespeare.

Over the semester i think my favorite two things were the beat poetry/pop art project and the Hamlet movie. The poetry project allowed me to use some creativity to make a well written poem and some cool looking art. There is such a wide range and variety of the two that it allows for anyones taste in art to be acknowlegded. I also like the Hamlet movie we're watching. I think it shows some great insight into the movie and at the same time makes it easier to understand. I'm a very visual learner, so being able to watch a movie allows me to get a better understanding of the context of the play and at the same time enjoy watching the play instead of just reading it.

The two things I thought were interesting and worthwhile this semester were reading One Flew over the Cuckoo's Next and also discussing Turn of the Screw. First of all, I thought that cuckoo's nest applies to everyone because it helps us to decipher the reasons people do what they do through psycological analysis. I think this was a great book that showed how important a leader is and the effect one can have on those around them. Now, for Turn of The Screw, I truthfully did not enjoy reading the book. It was just boring. But, I feel that our in class discussions of the various interpretations of the text (especially our essay) was very beneficial to us as young thinkers because it gave us good practice in fomring an opinion and using evidence to back it up. Overall, I thought this semester was fairly laid back but at the same time very productive and intellectually stimulating. Great class and see ya next semester schindler.

Throughout the semester I feel like I have progressed in my reading and actually started to deeply comprehend and enjoy the literature we have read. I think one of my favorite parts of the semester was reading "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Our class discussions were priceless as well as very helpful to seeing all of the different ways that it could be interpreted. Reading that book helped me realize how to read a book while marking it up and taking notes. I have also enjoyed reading Hamlet so far. It has helped a great deal to explain as we are reading. I have never really liked a Shakespeare play but I think it was because I never fully comprehended them and slowed down to read them. Before this class I was always the type of girl who liked to do projects and the reading was the hard part. By learning a new reading style I actually have started to really enjoy reading! yay!

I must say One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of my favorite books, honestly Mr. Schindler, it was terrific! Kesey wrote it with so much insight and just about every page had a twisted relevance to one of the several main themes of the novel that made analyzing it satisfactory and fun.
Another book that we discussed in class that was another great decision was Brave New World. It took small, often unidentified problems from our society and multiplied them by one hundred. However, there was no hyperbole, it was all realistically exaggerated and it completely changed my outlook on our society, government, and each individual. Not to mention, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest had themes related to that of Brave New World, so the digestion of the novels was more complete with references bouncing between each book.

My favorite part of the semester was the Pop Art and Beat Poetry. It was a nice break from reading everyday as a class. The book I enjoyed most was One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest. I felt that we could relate our own lives to their society. I actually could understand the text easily unlike Hamlet where the don't speak in modern english.

MY favorite part of the semester was the pop art. I loved choosing the poems and trying to find pop art that went with it. I also really enjoyed reading Brave New World and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I loved the interesting discussions that we had in class about them.

This semester I really enjoyed reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I saw the movie before and I had enjoyed it but never had the time to read the book. I was throughly pleased with the book as well. During this semester I also enjoyed enjoyed reading Turn of the Screw because it was a different kind of horror novel. It was more intellectual and had many allusions and hidden meanings. I enjoyed reading between the lines. It was a great semester.

I really enjoyed reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I enjoyed the unique characters of Chief Bromden and McMurphy. I always tried to anticipate what would happen next between Big Nurse and McMurphy. I also liked reading the Oedipus Rex short stories. I had herd the story before so I was glad to get to read it in a book. It shows the differences in cultures between ours and mythology type stuff.
