I had a great time this year in college prep. I enjoyed all the discussions that we had about the books that we were reading. It really helped me to learn how to analyze a book or essay and learn how to look at different meanings for certain things in the book. My favorite book that we read was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and I also enjoyed the unit we did about time and the essays we read about time. Next year while I am at college I will be able to take many things that we learned this year to help me with my assignments and help me to analyze the books that I am reading. Thanks for a great year Mr. Schindler!!!!!!!

My favorite part about College Prep this year were the books Brave New World and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. For those books I really liked the discussions that we had in class because it seemed that everyone had read those books and everyone was interesting in them. Those books provided a lot of opportunity for open discussion and I think that the one's we had in class were really insightful by all and really helped me understand the books and characters. I also really thought it was great how we wrote our college entrance essays in class. It really helped me to have more than just my parents read it and give me their feedback. I think that I will be able to take the skills I learned from our discussions, marking the books with post its and writing down quotes and such to college next year. I think it will help me stay ahead of the curve as much as I can. Thanks for all of your time and for dealing with all of us sleepy heads in the morning Mr. Schindler!

This year i had the chance to read many different types of books and look for similar themes and similarities between them. I enjoyed the futuristic approach and was fasinated by some of the books. My favorite book we read this year was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Along with reading the books, i also enjoyed the differnt units we explored. I enjoyed the poetry and art unit, along with the extenialisim unit. Both were new to me and also really interesting. Next year at college, I plan to use the skills i have learned this year. I can apply these skills not only to english related classes, but also other subjects. I would like to thank you for a great year.

I think the best part of this year was the class discussions. I liked how we discussed the books we read as a class and didn't have many tests on them. My favorite book was Siddhartha because I thought that the self discovery that Siddhartha went through was inspiring. I also liked the poetry unit because I thought it was interesting to look at all the elments that go into writing poetry. Next year I plan on attending the business school at the University of Washington. I am planning on majoring in business and minoring in Spanish. I think that the skills I learned this year in college prep will help me a lot in college. Thank you for everything Mr. Schindler!

I thought that college prep was just the greatest! I loved talking things over in class, i thought that it was very nice how the setting was so relaxed and i always felt comfortable talking in class. All of the books that we read were very interesting and though provoking, especially 1984 which made me think about what is going on in society today. I think that having time to talk in class is a great way to understand the books more and look at things from other peoples perspectives so that you can read the book with a more open mind. You are the best Mr. Schindler and im so lucky that i had the honor of having you as my teacher!

I had a wonderful time this year in College Prep. I really enjoyed the discussions in class, as well as the atmosphere of the class. I liked how small our class was, and how all of our discussions evolved into something different each day. I think that goes to show how far just a simple discussion on a quote from a book can take you. I think that by far my favorite book this year was One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. I really enjoyed the different discussions, and hearing what each person had to say. I also enjoyed the books/discussion on existentialism because it was something that I wasn't exposed to very much, and it was something that was a little harder for me to grasp, but was still interesting to me. I think that i'll take a lot away from this class and make use of the discussion skills that i've learned throughout the year. Thank you for a fantastic year Mr. Schindler!!

My favorite part of class this year was getting to hear everyone's point of view on the reading. It's one thing to read a book and have your own ideas, but it's much more interesting to read a book when you get to hear what others think and share predictions and such. The worst part was probably reading Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. I enjoyed discussing existentialism and watching the movie after reading Hamlet but the actual reading of the play wasn't too fun. Next year I will be attending Central and getting my main courses done. After that I am hoping to study abroad in Scotland. I am planning on majoring in Special Education. It's hard to find a teacher who will joke around with the class and teach you a lot, so thanks for making this year fun Mr. Schindler!

I really enjoyed the material we covered this year in college prep, especially now that I see all of the similar themes throughout the books we read. My favorites include One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Brave New World, and 1984. These books all dealt with rebellion against control, which I think is a very appropriate theme for this stage in our lives. Throughout the next couple years we will have the chance to think more independently and work to balance control and liberty. I will definitely be able to take the ideas we covered in class on with me next year in college.

My favorite part about College prep was Brave new world, Siddhartha, and 1984. I feel like I was really able to become engaged in those books and have good discussions in class. My least favorite book was The Turn of the Screw because it was really creepy and hard to follow. This fall I am headed up to Western where I will be able to use my newly acquired book analyzing skills!

Best part: Mr. Schindler getting a talking to about his recipe / cult thingummy for the cat.

Worst part: The turn of the screw.

My plans are USC, Music, and hella sleep.

My favorite part of the class was reading Hamlet because I liked that we read it aloud rather than to by ourselves because that is how it was meant to be read. We spent a lot of time on it, and I learned a lot more about the story than I think I had when I read it myself. Though I thought the tests were a bit outrageous. They were way too specific in lines which I do not believe is necessary to understand the message that Shakespeare was trying to portray with his story. The worst book we read was the Turn of the Screw because there was minimal action and the entire book was commentary. I felt like I was reading a text book, but not learning any information. The story appeared to end where it began and didn't really give any answers to the numerous questions that the book presents in the course of the novel. Next year I'll be attending Western Washington University, and I hope to major in Biology or Mathematics. English was never really my forte because I have good ideas, but I have terrible grammar and cannot display my ideas in a constructive enough manner. Hopefully after I've taken a college English class I can develop a better writing style.

College Prep was half of the bane of my existence this year. It was so early in the morning, which made it hard to get to on time and sometimes hard to stay awake. Aside form that this was one of my better classes this year. I loved the reading list it was by far the best district-approved reading list of my schooling. My favorite new books were Brave New World and One flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Also 1984 but that's not new. I liked discussing 1984 and reading Hamlet in class even though I got the shaft and had to read Hamlet's part out loud. The college essay instruction was really beneficial on teaching how to court people in power which I will need to do again. Since it doesn't matter any more, I secretly used the college essay I wrote in debate sophomore year. But it worked and got me into college, which is most important. Next year at Western the analytical skills I learned in high school will hopefully help me succeed. Thanks for a good year!

My favorite parts of the class were getting to read and discuss Brave New World and 1984 as well as One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Societal problems, as well as political, are interesting and participating in the discussions that we had gave me a better sense of how humanity has developed and what it will develop into in the future. My least favorite thing was doing these blogs because I can never remember to do them. Next year I plan on attending Seattle University and studying Mechanical Engineering. So aside from the compulsory English classes, this is it. The End.

I had a really fun time in College prep this year. I liked analyzing Brave New World and 1984. These two books really opened my eyes to all sorts of conspiracies of our government and other governments. It also served as a good warning for future society. It was also good to get help with our college entrance essays. I wish that our class discussions could have been more intense, shouting our opinions at each other at some point in time...but overall it was a good year. I plan to use my analytical skills next year in college to help me write essays and in discussions. Also, the many books we read will be good to refer to in the future. Thanks for the entertaining mornings, I heart you Schindler!

I had a pretty good time in college prep sorry I was late so much but I promise that I have been late my whole life it was nothing against you. My favorite part of the class is a tie for Cuckoo's Nest and 1984. The worst part was Turn of the Screw. Next year depending on how many credits i get from this semester i am going to UCSantaBarbara if I don't get enough credits then I am not sure what I will do but i will probably still go to California get a job and go to college later if I can.

I think that this year was amazing in college prep. I loved coming to class and listening to the in depth conversations that almost everyone participated in. I think that the most interesting part of this year was reading Hamlet and relating the text to the bible> It was interesting to break down what Shakespear was writing about and dig deeper into what he was thinking. My favorite book that we read this year was once flew over the cuckoo's nest, it was really fun to talk about in class. Next year i am going to Gonzaga University and hopefully get into the business school and study marketing. I have had a wonderful year this year and im going to miss this class very much next year.

Our college prep class was a fun class to be a part of. My favorite part was reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I really enjoyed that book. Also all the weirdness that went on in the classroom sometimes. The worst part for me was that art project, I very much disliked it. Also The Turn of the Screw was the worst book this year. Next year I will be attending Seattle Pacific University and majoring in electrical engineering.

I really loved going to this class. We always have interesting discussions and loved the books we read this year. I really liked reading One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Turn of the Screw. Those were my favorite books, but most of the books I thought were really good this year. The only book I didn't really enjoy was Siddhartha, but other than that i had a great time in this class. Next year i will be going to the east coast for college and playing softball and hopefully what we did in this class will really help me with my english classes. Thank you Schindler and 6th period for such an amazing year!

I really enjoyed my time in College Prep this year. Some of my favorite parts were the discussions we had on books like Siddhartha. I thought we brought up many interesting points. M favorite book was Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead because I liked the existentialist subject matter and I thought the book was funny. I wish we could have done more essays and peer editing because I believe that writing essays is important prep work for college. I also thought that we read in class together too often when we could have been discussing what we read at home, Hamlet. Next year I'll be at the U.W. and I'd like to say thank you for a great year, I'm glad I took the extra year of English.

My favorite part of the year was the class discussions that we had. It was nice to be able to analyze the different books as a class and to get everyones opinion about what they thought was happening in the book.I really did not like the topic that I received for the paper we had to write about Rosencrants and Gildenstern. Next Year i will be attending WSU and be pursuing a career in computer science. I had a great year in your class. thanks schindler.

I ended up enjoying this year very much. I remember last year i was torn between doing Humanities and College Prep but in the end in glad i stuck with your prep class. I believe this class has taught me many useful things i can use for next year. My favorite party of the year was reading Brave New World, and how you never heard me, Anna and Amy making random background noises. The worst part of this year was probably Hamlet, just because i never understand Shakespeare. Next year I'm going to the University of Mississippi to study marketing and do cheerleading down there. Thanks for such a great year Schind.

The worst part of class this year was having it first period and beginning class at 7:10 in the morning. It is very difficult to analyze and think about the books that early. My favorite part of the year was having class discussions. I like discussions better that writing papers or taking quizzes because we were able to hear everyone’s opinion and think about ideas other than our own. I especially like reading “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. That was my favorite book that we read this year. I also enjoyed reading Hamlet and pairing it with the movie. I was able to understand it and analyze what was going on more easily. Overall, it was a great year and it went by so fast. Thanks Schindler, I really did enjoy your class.

Unknown said...

Well Mr. Schindler, I believe that the best part of the year was when we were all in class and you were trying to quit us so we could commence reading Hamlet. Then, when we finally were silent you were just about to speak when a low frequency, 'boop' noise erupted from your seat. Your face heated the second it happened and you squeaked, 'Excuse me!' I thought you had burped until everyone started cracking up and then it hit me... Well, not the wave of noxious gas you produced but what you had done. Mr. Schindler farted.
I'd have to say the worst part of the year was when you actually made us do assignments and turn them in. Talking, and discussions were much more efficient in the learning process.
Next year I will be attending Western (for free!) and I will double major in literature and biology (or physiology or something of that sort) and I, well, I have a dream... I will write dissertations elaborating or disproving medical theories and such. I will then travel the world and lecture people on my work and become extremely wealthy, get free stuff and marry a German rock star. Or I'll become a plastic surgeon or specialist of some sort.

This year has been a great year! I think that we had some very great discussions that prepared me for college english in the class college prep. The best part was chatting about our books and listening to Brendon read Hamlet to us. Good year. My other favorite part was being allowed to share my idea of time and god's shoe box. I was glad I got to share my artistic abilities with the class. Next year I am going to Chapman University to study broadcast journalism with a minor in Spanish. I am going to one day have my own travel show. SO be sure to look for me! Thanks SchinSchin for everything! LOVE JEN

WOW! last blog. College prep=best class ever. I enjoyed our class discussions. Although we sometimes got off on a tangent we had many interesting and insightful discussions and I learned a lot. The books we read all were pretty decent and I feel it was really interesting that they all had similar ideas and themes and could connect in some ways. I really enjoyed Cuckoo's Nest, Brave New World and 1984 the best. They all had similar ideas about controlling the population and having one group with power over the other. Another very close second was when Brendan read the majority of Hamlet to us. He was pretty decent. :). Next year I will be at PLU studying marketing..Have a great summer everyone and keep in touch!

My favorite part of this year was the beginning when we discussed Brave New World and read One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest. This was a good time because I had not suffered from Senioritis quite yet. My least favorite part was the part where we read Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead because there were a lot of tests and I wasn't into the books. Next year I am off to Colorado State University and will learn about engineering. Thanks Mr. Schindler!

I loved college prep with Schindler. I felt like the discussions we has in class were very valuable and the ideas we came up with always related to life in general. My favorite books were Cuckoo's Nest and Brave New World. The college entrance letter part of class was very helpful but it would help if we did it earlier in the year. Next year I will be attending Eastern Washington University and playing volleyball. I will hopefully graduate with a Business or Visual Communications degree and start interior decorating.

I had a really good experience in Mr. Schindler's College prep class. We had some very interesting discussions and experiences. My favorite book was one flew over the cuckoos nest! The thing I had the hardest time with this year was sitting through some of the stuff that was said about God. I know I didnt speak up about some of it, but it was hard to listen to some of the offensive language that was used in regards to the Christian God. Also some of the things that were said werent exactly true. But this taught me how to have patience and let insults just be without getting to to argumentents every time someone said something mean. Aside from that this class was a good one. Oh, next year I am going hoping to go to school in New Zealand and through that go on missions throughout the middle east. But thats only if I raise enough money by the deadline!

This year has been a wonderful year noting the fact that our class was predominantly all girls. SUPER! If i were to say what the best part of the year was academically it would be watching the movies, but mostly analyzing a book to its deepest nook 'n cranny. I also enjoyed seeing Schindler as a REAL man. I really do not have nothing bad to say about this year because it has been magnificent. The books i read this year turned out to be several of my favorite books now like One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and Siddhartha. I love how the class was really mellow and intriguing because we would get lost into conversations even if it did or did not involve the analysis of our book. So here's to a great year! My plans for next year include the following: stress, anxiety, fright, and the feeling of failure (but then recovering).

Oh Schindler how time flys when you are having fun! This year was a complete blast. Overall out of the books we read I feel that my favorite was probably 1984. It was interesting to compare what was going on in the book to how our world is changing today. I think the worse part about the whole year was probably those Hamlet tests haha. It was hard enough as is to follow let alone the tests! Our great morning discussion made up for it though! Next year I will be attending the University of Montana and hopefully getting a degree in either social work or Psychology where I get to work with patients in hospitals. Crazy I know but it sounds fun. I'm going to miss you a lot next year Schin you made this year amazing! College prep was definatly the highlight of the school day!

College prep made getting up so early so as bad. Even though i was late every day. The best part was sitting aorund talking all period instead of reading. We came up with all sorts of stuff to talk about. The worst part was the project we did about time, that we had no guidence on or anything. I didn't find it very useful. Next year I am playing volleyball at BCC.

I have to say that college prep was probably my favorite class this year. It all started with the book Brave New World. I think that book is amazing. It had to be by far the most intersting book i think i have ever read. Actually all of the books we read were amazing. Except Turn Of the Screw i have to say i thought it was an ok book but definitly not my favorite. I also thought that along with reading great books it realy helped me to understand how i will have to read and analyze books in college and how even though it may take some time it is sooooo worth it becuase it opens up the book that much more and makes you appriciate what you just read. Also i cant forget the poetry project. That was also one of my favorite things. I love art and being able to put those two things, litterature or in this case poetry and art together was awsome. You asked what i didn't like about the class, well i think it was, no. Maybe it was. yeah i can't think of anything really. I loved this class and want to say thanks for such an awsome year that really will prepare me for college. Not just in school but in life as well. : )

after this year im very glad that i took college prep. I was pretty hesitant at first but i think it was a lot better because i got schindler instead of babs. I heard they have millions and millions of assignments. im not down with that my senior year. My favorite part of this class was probably just talking to schindler about life and what he thinks about it as well as seeing all the crazy outbursts. My least favorite part was block days where we would attempt to talk about the book for 2 hours which is the hardest thing to do. Next year i plan on going to the University of Washington i have no idea what im going to study yet but we'll see what happens.

I really enjoyed all of the books that we read, espcially One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and 1984. I appreciated that we could write our college essays in class because I think that it really helped and that it may be the reason I got into so many schools. Next year I plan on going to UW and probably majoring in marketing, but I am going in undecided because I like to change my mind alot. Thank you for amusing us and teaching us at teh same time MR. Schindler.

What a fun year! I feel like I learned a lot more this year than any other English class because of our class discussions that touched on the most bizarre topics and from the books we read. I think the most helpful part of class was having time to write our college essays because it would have been hard for me to work on it all at home. I also enjoyed reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The one thing I didn't like was the Hamlet tests because they were so "not Schindler like". I liked having class discussion MUCH better. Next year I will be going to UW and although I probably won't be taking too many English classes, I think this class will help me a lot. Thanks for a memorable year Schindler!

Greg Kachmarik said...

I truly enjoyed the college prep English class. The class was the perfect class to take early in the morning because unlike other teachers whom i have had in the past, Mr. Schindler was just as tired as the students. This made the class more enjoyable because it gave me a more gradual awakening in the morning. I can only imagine what my year would have been like if I didn't have Mr. Schindler as my college prep English teacher.
Also, the book that we read where the most enjoyable required readings I have had to read in my high school career. My favorite has to be One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest. It was a book that I actually read ahead of schedule. Never before have I done anything like that in prior years. The only book that I found to be boring was A Turn of The Screw. I don't even want to go into why I didn't enjoy that book. But over all I loved the class and looked forward to the 1 3 5 block days because of it.

The best part of this year in this class was the class as a whole. I enjoyed the atmosphere, which was so relaxed and welcoming. I also enjoyed being able to read so many books and attempting to discuss them.
My least favorite part about this class was to have to try to remember the to do the blogs. I used to be really good about remembering o get them taken care of but as this year came to a close my mind was slipping more and more.
My plans for next year are I'm going to Eastern Washington University to major in Business Administration and I can't wait to get out of here. I plan to get really involved in my schoolwork and some sort of physical activity, probably running. But I'm going over to Cheney and am planning to visit my extended family as well.

I loved this year in College Prep. Although it was early it was still very enjoyable and we had many great class discussions about literally everything. I loved talking about the books we read and analyzing them in class. The only thing I really didn't like this year was the project on time because we didn't have any guidance on what Schindler wanted us to do. Next year i'll be going to UW where I will study something in english, journalism, french or psychology... nothing in math. Thanks for a great year Schindler!

Mr. Schindler,
Thank you for the wonderful year in College Prep. English 12th. I really enjoyed listening to all the class discussions and looking for quotes to support our thought. My favorite novels from the list of books that we've read this year are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Hamlet, and Siddhartha.

In the Falls, I will be attending Cascadia Community College for the first two years to earn an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Then I will transfer to U.W. of Bothell to earn a Bachelors Degree, and finally, I hope to earn a Masters Degree at U.W. Seattle.

I will miss you Mr. Schindler. Again, thanks for the great year!!

My favorite part of College Prep this year has been our pop art and beat poetry projects. They were fun because they were a combo of language and art fun! Book discussions were also quite entertaining through "Hamlet"and I enjoyed learning various Bible connections. My least favorite part of this year would have to be the Hamlet tests...which were quite specific and therefore somewhat harder than what we had been doing all year. Oh well, it was good times nonetheless. Next year I plan to kick literary butt!

Our small class this year allowed for marvelous class discussions. Because we were able to be comfortable with every member of the class, i believed that allowed us to make multiple breakthroughs while reading. Our book list was nice in preparation for a college environment. The lack of structure mirrors what is to come in the fall. My favorite book was Hamlet, I enjoyed reading and discussing this book during class. I thank you for a wonderful year! Our small class this year allowed for marvelous class discussions. As I look back on College Prep, I enjoyed the year greatly was reading the books that seemed to connect with one another. Comparing and contrasting seemed to be a main point that was covered. This helped me look for certain topics in the novels as we read. Also our discussions were kind of off the wall but very amusing. Next year I will be going to Gonzaga University. I will be studying Biology/Pre-Med. Thank you so much Mr. Schindler for making English, even in the morning, fun!

I think that overall this year was pretty laid back. I think that this type of environment really actually helped me to learn the concepts/underlying themes of the books, instead of just having certain things that we had to memorize. My favorite part of the year was when we did the existentialism unit, because I'd really never heard of it before and its fascinating to see what other people believe in etc. The worst part of the year was probably reading Turn of the screw because I really didn't take anything away from the book and thought it was boring. Next year I'll be going to Western Washington U and I'll be participating in the CBE (college of business-economics) program along with taking the regular courses. Thanks for a great year and good luck in the future Schindler!

I really enjoyed college prep english this year. It was probably my favorite english class to date! Of all the books that we read this year, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest was one of my favorites. Another that I liked reading was Hamlet, beacuse I enjoy reading Shakespeare, and the discussions that we had about the book were interesting. It was also excellent that we had the opportunity to write some of our college entrance essays in class. It was nice to have a teacher as well as peers look them over for us. Unlike english classes I have taken in the past, in college prep there was no feeling of intimidation or competition of any sort in the room. I feel that often times students feel that they absolutely have to disagree with eachother in discussion and speak for the longest, but what was nice about your class was that we could speak whenever we felt comfortable and had something to contribute. As for next year, I will be attending Chapman University in california majoring in business, and most probably choosing the specific study of entrepreneurship. English this year was entertainment in a learning environment and I loved it! I'll miss bringing you coffee every day! Thanks for a great year.

I really enjoyed this year. College Prep English was my favorite English class I have ever taken because of the great book list and the in class discussions. This year I enjoyed reading (which usually is not the case) but furthermore I learned how to analyze and dissect books. Our class size and chemistry was fantastic because we all felt comfortable with each other and it was easy to speak up if you had an important point. My favorite book we read was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest because of the analyzing and in class discussion. It really brought the book to life and I got so much more out of it than I would if I would have read it on my own. If there was one book I would change it would probably be Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. I know it is a great playwright but it was not my favorite style of reading and I found it somewhat boring. After taking this class I feel very prepared for college next year, even though I still haven't decided if I am going to UW or Gonzaga. I have learned how to find the deeper meanings and to identify themes. I feel like now I really know how to read like a college student, and for once, I really enjoy reading.
